The Dills at TIL

I have been receiving interesting and threatening letters from TIL's lawyers. Boy, they make me laugh!

I guess that Paula Pleasant, the inhouse lawyer at TIL, is behind this. She should know better, after what she has gotten up to. Just because I told her at the Christmas picnic that I didn't want to spend time with her, doesn't justify a legal malestorm of letters. Oh, by the way, her is a picture of Paula at the end of that picnic!

And Friday night drinks!

Laughing Out Loud!!

Would you believe it!! I received a letter from TIL's lawyers, threatening me with a whole bunch of rubbish. With what I know about them! People in glass houses. In war, the best defense is to attack. Stand by!

Facebook Promotions For Your Hotel

Many hotels are struggling with making their Facebook presence more effective.   Running a contest or promotion on your hotel’s Facebook Page is a great idea for hotel marketers who are looking to improve the effectiveness of their Facebook marketing results.
Contests can help you:
  1. Garner a larger fan base.
  2. Improve the interaction you have with you current fans.
  3. Give you a golden opportunity to collect emails and mailing addresses of your fans.
The problem that  a contest may pose is that it can attract unqualified Likes… people entering your contest just to win  may not have any intention of becoming a customer.
In order to mitigate this problem (if you think it is a problem), consider the following:
  1. How you promote your contest. Are you promoting it to the general public or are you promoting it to past guests, current fans, and potential guests?
  2. What you give away. An iPad as a prize can bring out the monkeys and pornstars.  A free nights lodging or weekend spa treatment at your property will only attract people with an intention of actually staying with you.

Change of Pace

Well, it has been one full week since my last day working at Travel Internet Limited. Boy, it is great to get out of their, it was really starting to get me down. So many problems, and so much inaction. And corruption from the top down.

I had a week of vacation at Noosa and Fraser Island, and got back to the keyboard today.

Looking forward to my new venture -- it will send a rocket through the industry. More to be announced soon.

Twitter to Find Guests

Here is an interesting article about a service that scans Twitter to find guests for your hotel.

Hotels can already turn to Revinate for help with social media in general, but Reach.ly is a new service focused specifically on finding potential new guests. Toward that end, Reach.ly monitors Twitter for mentions of planned trips and allows hotels to reach out to visitors who are heading their way.

Outrigger Noosa

This weekend I visited the new Outrigger at Noosa. It is located on Little Hastings Street. I did not like it at all. It was very quiet -- not many people around, and it had a desolate feeling, unlike the bustle of Hastings Street. It was a long walk to the beach and to the restaurants, down hill. So the walk back was exhausting. You feel like you are staying in a carpark in a rainforest, not a beach resort.

My favourite place to stay in Brisbane

When I need to recommend a place for people to stay in Brisbane, I strongly recommend Quay West, on Alice Street overlooking the Botanical Gardens. It is near QUT.

Consistently rated as a top hotel in Brisbane on TripAdvisor.

One and two bedroom suites, with daily service and room service. Pool, gym, restaurant. Large balcony. Great location and great views from all suites. The one bedroom suites have kitchen, large living area with desk, laundry room, bathroom and large bedroom. Two modern flat screen TVs. The nicest pool in Brisbane. Operated by Mirvac.
Book here.

I like this

I like these two websites:

Mooloolaba

In my opinion, the best hotel on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland is Oceans Mooloolaba, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean at Mooloolaba Beach.

This hotel is more than just a hotel. It is really an apartment building, run like a hotel. It is about a year old, so very fresh.

Every suite has fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean.

The suites are really 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom apartments. Each can sleep at least four people. In each suite there are two bathrooms, a full kitchen, a living room (which a huge plasma TV), a dining room, laundry area, and balcony.
